Week Twelve at Harmarville
Week Twelve
Days Seventy-eight & Seventy-nine...
August 20 & 21, 2003
Hi All....
Here's what's new.
Greg will be staying at Harmarville for another 7 to 10 days beyond August
28th. Dr. Brenes wants him to get his spasms under control. To do that he has
to increase his Dantrium by 75%. The doc prefers to do that while Greg is
there. While the spasms are good, they are in some cases interfering with his
therapy by causing his body to torque while he is walking in the braces. Also,
they make it more difficult for Greg to transfer himself. That's something he'd
like to get better at.
He said that he feels more of the muscles in his legs tightening. No more
movement yet, but hopefully a precursor to that. He also feels like his lower
abdominals are "turning on".
The other day he got his cell phone. He's able to put on and take off the
earpiece and to dial numbers by holding the phone in his lap and pressing down
on the numbers.
All good progress. He's a little down about having to stay, but hopefully
it can lead to good improvements. It also gives a little more time to get the
downstairs renovations done and to find some help in the other areas.
Patience: a fruit of the spirit: the byproduct of the Holy Spirit's work in
our hearts and minds
"If it seems slow, wait patiently for it will surely take place." Habakkuk 2:3

Day Eighty...
August 22, 2003
Good evening...
Not much to report today. As I mentioned, Greg's medications for spasms and
nerve pain were increased a lot, so he was kind of sleepy today. Also, his
wrists have been very tired and weak. Dr. Brenes thinks it's because of pushing
the manual chair. So, Greg has been grounded from the manual for now and he's
back into the power chair for the weekend.
Francie and I are going to pick him up tomorrow morning for the trip home.
The dinner/dance for their benefit is scheduled for tomorrow night from 6P to
10P. We will all be attending, at least for a while. Greg has to be back at
Harmarville tomorrow night. Then back home again on Sunday.
Don't forget to check out the website if you have not already done so.
Blessings,
Connie

Days Eighty-one & Eighty-two...
August 23 & 24, 2003
Hi All....
Well Greg had another good weekend at home. As many of you know, the
dinner/dance benefiting Greg and Francie was held last night. We had a
wonderful time. My little sister, Marcy surprised Greg by flying in from
Florida for the event. We were all very moved by the amount of preparation,
work and generosity that was shown there. It was really cool to see some people
that we haven't seen in a very long time. It was also great to meet people that
we didn't know, but who were kind enough to come. It was very difficult to get
to everyone, so if we didn't stop to say "Hi", please know that your
participation was deeply appreciated...and also thank you to those of you who
couldn't come but sent donations. We missed you.
Greg slept through today. Well, not completely, but just about. Isn't it
great that God doesn't get tired? In fact, Jesus says,
"Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and
gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly and
the burden I give you is light. " Matt 11:28-30

Day Eighty-three...
August 25, 2003
Hi All...
Just a quick note to let you know that Greg's new release date is 9/4/03.
Greg was very tired yesterday because his neurontin (nerve pain) and
dantrium (spasms) have been so greatly increased. It will probably take a few
days for his body to get used to the new doses.
Greg and Francie met with the rep. from OVR (Office of Vocational
Rehabilitation). There's nothing firm yet, but it looks like they'll help with
the part of the power chair that the insurance won't cover, the voice
recognition software and probably an elevator for the house. It appears that
their financial help with more renovations to the house is doubtful....but let's
see what God will do.
Well I'm off for school. Talk to y'all later. Don't forget to send
messages on the website.
Blessings,
Connie

Day Eighty-four...
August 26, 2003
Hi All....
Well 12 full weeks at Harmarville have been completed today. I talked to
Greg and he said it was a pretty uneventful day. Therapies went as normal. He
did mention that he asked to have his neurontin level reduced somewhat. So
we'll see how that goes.
I'm sorry this note is so short...but I've got to prepare for my first day
with my very own class in 24 years....gasp. Pray for me.
Blessings,
Connie
