A New Beginning - May

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms.

I thought I'd take a moment to let you know what is going on with Greg.

Last week he went back to therapy. Did some basic stuff.....leg stretches and electrical stimulation. He went to hand therapy and found that he could voluntarily flex his left index finger at the upper joint. What is particularly interesting about this movement is that it comes from lower down in the spinal cord.

In the pool he floats vertically with the help of a flotation device. Then he has to use his hip flexors and abdominals to pull his knees up. I can't wait to be finished with school so that I can go back to therapy once in a while. I love to watch it!

Greg has decided to wait a week or two before he goes back. Dr. Brenes has prohibited him from walking in PT. You'll recall that he was put in braces and the physical therapist helps him move his legs. Check out the website for a picture of this. Anyway, he's not allowed to do this yet and Doc Brenes is out of the country. So, Greg doesn't want to waste visits.

Also I'd like to share something that I heard in church today. The pastor was talking about miracles. Sometimes we want "big" things to just happen. But sometimes big things happen as a result of simple obedience. Moses didn't part the Red Sea, he just held out a stick.

Oh Lord, help me to understand the "whole" of your Word so that I may be obedient to it.

Blessings,

Connie

Good evening all....

I just wanted to give you an update. Last Sunday, I wrote and told you that Greg could flex the top joint of his left index finger. Today he showed us that he could move the main joint as well...whenever he wants to.

I know many of you have joined us in prayer that the healing proceed down the spinal cord. Please continue in that prayer.

Also, late this week Greg had an appointment with Bender consultants. Joyce Bender is a well-known advocate for the disabled. Her group helps the disabled return to gainful employment. Most of their clients are not already computer literate and have to be retrained. Of course, that is not the issue for Greg. They are very encouraging. Still, therapy comes first.....and discerning God's will in all of this.

One last reminder, check out the website for information on Friends United's golf outing and fund raiser for Greg. It is June 5th. The golf outing itself is full, but I understand that there is still room at the dinner.

Blessings,

Connie

Hello All....

Today is the 365th day since Greg's accident...(because of leap year).

Greg should be going back to therapy next week. He says the feeling in his hands is becoming more normal.

It has been quite a journey, and it is not over yet. I went back to the website to read my first updates. How far we've come.

Last Sunday the pastor reminded us Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. King Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image and ordered everybody to bow down and worship it. If they didn't, they'd be thrown into the fiery furnace. Well, our three heroes, S, M and A refused to worship the idol. The king gave them one last chance. Their response was: "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image you have set up." NIV. I'll let you read the rest of it to find out what happens. Daniel 3.

Their faith didn't depend on getting their own way. They knew that God's plan was greater than they could devise.

Philippians 4:6
Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Thank you all for your prayers,

Connie
