A New Beginning - February

Hi All......

Greg went to see Dr. Flanningan today. Apparently the vertebrae that were previously fused (4,5 and 6) are okay. Six and 7 are unstable. The dr wants to operate to fuse those two. There are, as you can imagine, risks associated with the surgery...and the risk of the vertbrae continuing to deteriorate if not done. Dr. F. said that there was a chance that the 2 vertebrae would fuse together on their own..but he doubted it. Greg is thinking about getting a second opinion. In the meantime, we would appreciate your continued prayes on this matter. We definitely need a miracle...or something.

Also add to yur prayer lists... Tom's cousin Shauna who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and his cousin Chris who fell and tore open her knee. She had 25 stitches and is unable to walk on it for 2 weeks.

Blessings,

Connie

Hi All....

I've been out of touch because we got a new computer and had to roll over the address book. I hope I got everyone on the distro. If someone tells you they haven't gotten an update, please let me know. Likewise, if someone is getting this note for the first time and doesn't know what I'm talking about, let me know.

Where we left...Greg's C6 and C7 vertebrae are collapsing. Xrays and MRIs of his neck show an S-curve in that area. His original neurosurgeon, Dr. Flanningan, would like to fuse them. Greg is in the process of making appointments to get other opinions. In the meantime, he has not been going to physical therapy since the therapists are limiting what they allow him to do until this situation is resolved.

Further, the swelling in his legs (due to the bloodclots) has really gone down and is now about normal.

The house: OVR sent an architect to take a look at the house and to make a drawing of what might be added. OVR will pay for certain things like an elevator, widening the doorways, etc.. Greg and Francie would have to pay for the rest. That will be challenging.

I have been drawn to Psalm 40 this week...It begins..

I waited patiently for God to help me;then he listened and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out from the bog and the mire, and set my feet on a hard, firm path and steadied me as I walked along.

Blessings,

Connie

Hello friends, On Tuesday, Greg goes to Dr. Maroon for a second opinion . As you may recall, Greg's C4,5 and 6 vertebrae were fused together the day after the accident. Subsequently, a "collapse" has occurred between C6 and C7. Dr. Flannigan, the original surgeon, recommended another fusion. Greg was concerned that he might lose mobility in his neck, not to mention the seriousness of the surgery. So, he made the appointment with Dr. Maroon.

His appointment is Tuesday, February 24th at 11:30 AM. If you are able, please pray around that time. God is the Great Physician. Let's pray that His wisdom and skill are brought to bear on this situation.

Blessings,

Connie

Hi All....

I talked to Francie briefly last night. Dr. Maroon gave the same diagnosis: Surgery to fuse C6-7. When I get more details, I'll send them along.

Last night, I was listening to Dr. Charles Stanley on WORD FM. He was talking about this passage from James 1:2
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Peseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Blessings,

Connie
